Be Your Own Advocate (Living Hope Training Series - Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority)

Self Advocacy refers to “an individual’s ability to effectively communicate, convey, negotiate or assert his or her own interests, desires, needs, and rights”. At this training you will learn what it means to be your own advocate, how to be an advocate, how to speak for yourself, be heard and get what you need.
AARP Listens to Michigan
These conversations directly engage the participants with each other on issues in a new way, such as on health care reform and beyond, in an environment of calm listening, fact-checking and shared discussion. Factual information from a variety of sources will be provided, participants will be encouraged to talk about their own information sources, and from there the conversation begins and grows through to the session's conclusion. Understanding Trauma and Triggers (Living Hope Training Series - Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority)

Waterford, MI
Participants will learn about how triggers relate to traumas experienced. Participants will learn coping skills to deal with trauma and to reduce repeated trauma following triggers. Participants who are clinicians will learn how to assist those who have experienced a trauma understand what has happened to them and how to cope with triggers.

Determining Change: Increasing Choice & Control for Older Adults through Person-Directed Planning and Self-Determination in Long-Term Care

The conference will offer practical tools for implementing and enhancing Person-Centered Planning and Self-Determination in the aging and disability communities. The two-day conference will be held in Lansing, MI and will offer continuing education units for nurses, social workers and nursing facility administrators. We will offer scholarships for people who use long term care supports and services to attend. We are also offering sponsorship and vendor opportunities.
