Harry Potter Series
We're not the only ones who love this series. A British charity has sold a complete set of Harry Potter books autographed by their author JK Rowling on e-Bay for $37,100. Bidding for the seven books on the online auction site closed after a starting offer of $204, Books Abroad development official said. I cannot tell you how excited I was to hear about this… just to dream about it is exciting to me.
Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: The Long (Long) Road Begins
Patti's Comments (re NPR article): My response to this is DUH!! If you bothered to read the books, you would understand the long and winding road these characters have been on that leads us to such a dark and heavy mood in this film. The gradual sense of foreboding was masterfully crafted by J. K. Rowling, and I hope comes across well in the last films. Of course, it is emotional - we LOVE these characters (both fictional and the actors), we have grown up with them, they are our mates in the fight against the Dark Lord! Speaking for my family, we love this sneak peak, and we are soooo tired of waiting for these films. But like the end of a good book or books, we are sad to have the end approaching as well. This is bittersweet and should not be compared to Twilight in any way, shape, or form. It makes me bristle as much as comparing Cobain to Lennon did. They are not now, nor will they ever be in the same league.

Favorite Quotes from or about Harry Potter:
The things we lose have a way of coming back to us. It's not always in the way we expect.
Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real? ~ Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows)
It takes a great deal of courage to stand up to your enemies, but a great deal more to stand up to your friends. ~ Albus Dumbledore
Numbing the pain for a while will make it worse when you finally feel it. - Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire)
Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows)
After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure. - Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone)
But you know happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the light. ~ Dumbledore (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban)
It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live. (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone)
I think I can be 100 years old and be in my rocker but I will always be proud to say that I was in Harry Potter. ~ Emma Watson.
Peter Pettigrew had the chance to be one of the good guys - a chance to be like his idols James and Sirius. But he let cowardice and greed lead him to the Darkside. ~ Mugglenet.com (about a main "Harry Potter" character's struggle with good and evil)

The Fringe Benefits of Failure ~ (June 5, 2008 commencement speech at Harvard University)

My favorite part:
"The knowledge that you have emerged wiser and stronger from setbacks means that you are, ever after, secure in your ability to survive. You will never truly know yourself, or the strength of your relationships, until both have been tested by adversity. Such knowledge is a true gift for all that it is painfully won, and it has been worth more to me than any qualification I ever earned."

Killing rips the soul apart, it is a violation against nature.
It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow into.
Those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it.
In the end, love wins.
I just write what I wanted to write. I write what amuses me. It's totally for myself.
The Potter books in general are a prolonged argument for tolerance, a prolonged plea for an end to bigotry, and I think it's one of the reasons that some people don't like the books, but I think that it's a very healthy message to pass on to younger people that you should question authority and you should not assume that the establishment or the press tells you all of the truth. ~ J.K. Rowling - from a speech at Carnegie Hall
Anything's possible if you've got enough nerve.
It is our choices that show what we truly are far more than our abilities.
Our choices make us who we are.
Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
It's impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you are hardly living at all.
Failure is stripping away of the inessential (to focus on what truly matters).
Indifference and neglect often do more damage than outright dislike.

Rev. Says JK's Hero Potter is Like Christ (Scottish Sun - 10/25/10)
Dr Holmes said the Biblical theme is most apparent in JK Rowling's final book in the series, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows. He said: "It gives the strong impression Harry dies, discovers an afterlife in King's Cross and comes back to life. "That is a Christian narrative which is almost impossible not to recognise."
Patti's Comment: I could not agree more!
